Every bride dreams of looking a million dollars on her special day. Desiring flawless and radiant skin, the majority of brides rely on make up artists to achieve their vision. However beauty is not only skin deep; what is going on inside the body will project onto the outside, and make up can only disguise this to a degree. So how can you achieve radiant looking skin?
It’s not breaking news, but brides-to-be often ask me how they can reduce dark circles under the eyes or even out skin tones.
Stress and lack of sleep is one of the major factors that cause hormonal changes resulting in dark circles and breakouts in the skin. It’s no wonder that pre-wedding stress and burnout can give you skin worries when you need them the least. Make the time to add these simple steps into your daily routine sooner rather than later to help you keep on top of it.
1/ Plan your work and work your plan. Remember to put 8 hours sleep into your plan; it is important that you get sufficient sleep for your mind, body and spirit, and to reduce the stresses and strains on your body. Plan your work efficiently and take action on these things to ensure it doesn’t cut into your sleeping time. You need your beauty sleep!
2/ Drink plenty of water. This not only keeps your skin hydrated and looking radiant but it helps to carry nutrients to cells. You will feel an increase in vitality through drinking plenty of water. Cut down on caffeinated drinks, which just counteracts the water you drink by dehydrating you.
3/ Apply gentle cleansers and toners on a daily basis. This evens out skin tones and allows the skin to feel fresh. I love using Rose water as a toner, as its natural and refreshing.
4/Apply slices of cucumbers or potatoes on the eyes twice a week. This cools down the eyes and helps reduce puffiness and dark circles and also improves circulation to the area around the eyes. This is also great to do the night before your wedding to prevent waking up with puffy eyes.
5/ If you decide to have a course of facials, don’t leave it too late. Facials can often cause breakouts to begin with, so start the course a few months before the wedding.
6/ Nutrition - Apply Vitamin E creams especially on the area under the eyes, to help strengthen it. With all the anxiety and stresses of planning a wedding, food and nutrition can often be the last thing on the mind. Remember to eat healthy and regularly as this will help keep your energy levels up.
7/ Lastly, exercise – From as little as 20 minutes a day, you will see a change in your vitality and mentality. Exercise has many benefits such as improving circulation, de-stressing the body and helping you sleep.
Following the tips mentioned above will not only help the make up artist on the brides wedding day, but it will also make the bride feel better about herself. So now you have achieved radiant skin from the inside, how can you enhance it through make up cosmetics?
1/ Concealers and foundations not only even out the skin tone and hide dark circles but also reflect light to give you flawless looking skin; this is an essential part of photographic make up. I love
MAC Studio Sculpt; this has a creamy rich texture, which provides medium coverage and hydrates the skin. It’s great for emphasizing the skins natural sheen and highlights. For dryer skin types, mix with a little bit of moisturiser. Use a press powder to matte down areas prone to oiliness or use all over the face.
2/ Highlighters are normally used to accentuate the brow bone and the cheek bones. Highlighters on the cheek bones can really help to give that glowy look. I recommend GLAMSpot eyeshadow in
Champagne as a highlighter. This works really well with gold shaded makeup. Use Mac Belightful tridescent powder when working with shades of pinks and peaches.
3/ LipGloss – To really finish off a radiant and glowy look, use lipgloss or sheer lipsticks rather than matte finishes. I recommend Chanel shimmer glosses. Try colour 96.
